Once and a while, I delve into the world of SEO to run little experiments that might help increase this blog’s visibility and, if they work, share my findings with those of you who are curious about SEO as well. As such, I’ve decided to run a little project with Technorati to see if I can boost my authority level and maybe help some of you do the same. The program of choice for this little venture is a “Technorati Favorite Exchange.”
It’s my hope that by participating in this exchange, we will all see a bit of a jump in our Technorati favorite totals. Exchanges are nothing new in the blogging world. For the past year or so bloggers have been using them as a means to gain more readers, and to build some authority. These exchanges also help other readers discover new blogs that they may not find otherwise! And, let’s face it – this is a great way to network with other active bloggers!
I got this idea from Dosh Dosh, who posted a similar experiment on his blog.
Here is the rationale provided there as to why Technorati favorite exchanges are useful:
Why the emphasis on Technorati? Simply because Technorati is a blog search engine, content aggregator, social website and ranking system which attracts a large number of bloggers, who are exactly the type of audience or readers I want for Dosh Dosh.
Technorati link count rankings are a source of social prestige in the blogosphere and are often the pride or despair of many bloggers. Unlike Technorati Top 100 Most Linked To blogs, which has a high barrier of entry, the Technorati Top 100 Most Favorited is a list that is much easier to break into.
The Technorati Top 100 most favorited is a simply list of blogs according to the number of people who have favorited them in their Technorati account.
Getting into the most favorited list does not depend on any other variable factors (such as link count over a period of time) except the number of favorites each blog receives. As of now, breaking into the top 100 will only require your blog to be favorited by more than 148 members. Fairly easy, in my opinion.
What are the benefits of being favorited?
Here are some reasons why getting into the Technorati 100 will be beneficial:
- Provides social proof. Getting in the Top 100 provides social proof of your blog’s popularity. This will increase the attractiveness of your site in the eyes of advertisers and blog readers if mentioned or displayed prominently.
- Expands your blog readership. You are more likely to receive visitors from Technorati if you are listed in the Top 100 most favorited list. Visitors are bloggers, which means that they are potential feed subscribers if you have quality content.
A Few Ground Rules Up Front
All blogs are welcome to take part in this exchange, especially Real Estate related ones! I do request that you adhere to the following restrictions:
- NO spam blogs.
- No Adult content.
- No overtly offensive material. (I’m OK with Snarky, just not rude or crude)
For most of you, this is not a problem. If you have questions about this email me.
How Do I Take Part in This Technorati Favorite Exchange?
Here’s what needs to be done…
1. Favorite my blog on Technorati by clicking here and adding it as a Favorite, or use the button on my top left hand sidebar.
2. Return here and leave a comment letting me know you added me as a Favorite, and be sure to leave either your Technorati user name or a link to your Technorati page so that I can add you to mine.
Example: My Technorati Username = ksandridge Link – http://technorati.com/blogs/http://www.floridamortgageblogger.com
3. Write a new post on your blog about this “Technorati Favorite Exchange†post and that you are exchanging Favorites and make sure to put a link to this post in it.
4. When I receive a Trackback letting me know you have done this, I will include a link on this post to your post.
There you have it. Easy peasy! I won’t reply to the comments posted on here, as that would be a job in itself. I will, however, be updating a separate Technorati Favorites Exchange page here on my blog on a daily basis.
Return to this page to verify your link was added, and to also visit other blogs and exchange with them as well. If, for some reason, I miss your Favorite or Link do let me know!
I hope you found this post useful! As always, if you or anyone you know is in need of a local Florida mortgage loan originator, I’m your guy. Call me at 888-859-7418 or apply online for your Florida mortgage. We’ll keep you posted and let you know when it’s time to pull the trigger!

That’s not a bad idea, but I don’t think I understand what benefit you would receive from being one of the “most favorited” blogs, aside from something to talk about. To be honest I didn’t know that people were still using Technorati much. I use to run an extremely popular tech blog that did very well on Technorati and other blog services but never got much traffic from it, that was a few years ago though.
I do however, have a few real estate blogs so I guess its worth a shot, I will get everything done on my end and let you know. Thanks for the idea!
Yeah, I’m not sure either, to tell you the truth. It’s really more of a social networking experiment for me. I see folks on Technorati with 300 favorites listed, but their authority is like, 4. What’s that all about?
Really, for me… it’s all about finding new folks to read up on and making good connections with quality folks. Will everyone who “faves me” be someone I’ll want to follow – or someone who gives a flip about what I write – absolutely not. But, if I meet some good people along the way… like you, for instance! … then it’s worth it.
Keep me posted on what you come up with at your end!
Kevin, I agree with Patric above. Not much traffic from Technorati. I’ve had my blog range inside of 500, but very little traffic. Nevertheless, sign me up.
My blogs on Technorati are at http://technorati.com/people/technorati/TallahasseeRealtor
